A George resident found himself below ground level on Saturday when he drove into a ditch after the road he was travelling along disintegrated due to an underground pipe burst.

George municipal spokesperson Athane Scholtz denied that a motorist had driven into a sinkhole on Saturday, saying it was a burst pipe.
