Never in his wildest dreams did former Gqeberha triathlete James Cunnama think he would have such longevity in a sport where was first just a volunteer. Based in Stellenbosch, Cunnama, now a 37 year old family man, earlier this week announced on his social media channels his decision to hang up his triathlon racing suit after a career spanning over 14 years. Cunnama’s last race win came at the Professional Triathletes Organisation backed PEople’s Triathlon in November last year, while he toed the line of the PTO World Championships in Daytona a month later to start his final race as a professional.
